Why subscribe?

This newsletter is an experiment that describes what I am doing, personally and professionally, in a way that I no longer trust social media to do. This has included, in order of frequency:

  1. commentaries on my extensive and mildly obsessive readings, listenings, and watchings:

    1. mostly poppy,

    2. but occasionally peer-reviewed;

  2. interviews with people I find:

    1. in my personal network, or

    2. in my above-mentioned foraging of the noosphere;

  3. reprints of the past ten years of writing in obscure places online;

  4. personal reflections;

  5. cartoons or diagrams of my own creation;

  6. and finally, short stories.

There is a brand-new paywall on the first year of the archive. Most new posts will also be for paid subscribers.

Paying for a subscription allows me to pass some of those dollars along to talented collaborators like

, who drew the snazzy cartoon version of me that graces the landing page.

Stay up-to-date

For the past couple of years, I have been posting about once a week, usually on Monday mornings. These posts all go to the webpage. As the experiment evolves, this may grow to include a paid over-18 section, because I sometimes teach classes to minors, and they don’t need to see every single thought that pops into my 50-year-old adult head.

I also forward e-mails from other Substacks that I hope will be of interest to my readers. This tends to happen once or twice a week, depending on what I find. These do not go to the webpage; you have to subscribe to access my curatorial “expertise”.
