Part Two of a two-part interview.
Original Website Blurb from 2011
Well, we got renewed for another year. That's pretty exciting. Over the course of that next year, I'm going to be spending at least as much time promoting the show as producing the show. It's like Dr. Holekamp said during our interview: the point of much of her hard work is simply to make sure these creatures are around for future generations to study. How long a busload of tourists spends looking at them matters. You can keep track of her team's work at her lab website or at her NY Times blog.
Closer to home, my students just finished up this year's Great Backyard Bird Count, where they gather data for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and other scientists to use in their own conservation efforts. It's a much smaller commitment than being a grad student -- 15 minutes vs. 2 years. Don't worry if you missed it; they have lots of other year-round projects.
