The term “Sea Monkeys” did catch on. Rumor had it that there was an unofficial mission patch in production.

Of course, the surface base had its official name, something inspirational chosen by a middle-school student back on Earth, but once the difficulties started the medical team had their own contest for names of failed colonies. Embla Andersdottir, the medic on Phobos, lobbied for Viking names from Greenland, but nobody else could say Eystribyggð to her satisfaction, although they had fun trying for a few minutes once, while they were tipsy during a virtual Happy Hour. Vinland was a contender, as was Popham, founded by the English the same year and in direct competition with Jamestown. Popham was more fun to say, but J-town won out because cannibalism was more than colorful – one might even say compelling.
